Learning outcomes
The course deepens the study of architecture between the 15th and 18th century in its dealings with

the history of the arts, economy and culture, through the investigation of significant moments and

personalities in Italy and Europe; the course also aims to provide methodological tools and vocabulary

useful to introduce students to the analysis of architectural artifacts.
Course contents
The architectural treatises from the Renaissance to Neoclassicism. The course examines the architectural

treatises from the rediscovery of Vitruvius in the XVIth century to the reflection about antiquity in the

XVIIIth century. The lectures will be dedicated to the analysis of single treatises with particular attention

to the theoretical analysis and the influence on architectural practice. The analysis of the texts will be

conducted by the direct examination of specimens preserved in the libraries of Pavia.
