Students must be familiar with basic concepts about the Middle East history and the tenets of Islam
Learning outcomes
The course aims to elicit students’ knowledge and their ability to comprehend, discuss and analyze key topics of the most important contemporary issues in the MENA
Course contents
The course takes into consideration the importance of visual culture in the MENA area. After an introduction on the relationship between "image and Islam", we will approach: the importance of cinema; the impact of political elites' manipulations of visual culture; the new visual culture after the MENA revolutions (from 2011 to nowadays)
Teaching methods
teacher's lectures+ discussions on a selection of articles. the discussion will take place on Tuesday based on the articles distributed the previous week

at the start of the course I will post some articles on "art&revolution in the MENA" to be used in order to be prepared or the exam.
Assessment methods
oral examination. During the last class each student is requested to report a short presentation related to the course and previously
approved by the teacher
