Prerequisites
A basic knowledge of Greek and Roman history and civilization.
These classes are strictly connected with Classical Archaeology, of which they must be regarded as an essential completion and a sort of methodological introduction.
Learning outcomes
These lectures aim at giving an account of the development of classical archaeology from antiquarianism to history of art and ancient history tout court.
Course contents
A) History of archaeological research and criticism in Greek, Etruscan and Roman art, from antiquity to the present time.

B) Myth and archaeology at Troy, from Schliemann to Korfmann.

C) Two special lectures delivered by Dr Rosanina Invernizzi (Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism), to illustrate development and features of Italian Law in the field of cultural heritage.

Lectures, with commentaries to PowerPoint presentations.

Assessment methods
Oral examination. The students shall be requested to critically analyse some of the historico-methodological topics debated in the recommended selected bibliography.

Students coming from other European countries are allowed to answer in French, English or German language.
