Learning outcomes
This course aims to make students aware of the main turning points in the evolution of the Italian language from 1861 to our own time. It intends to develop the students' capacity for autonomously performing a linguistic and stylistic analysis when faced with literary or non-literary texts.
Course contents
The Course will examine some important phases of the evolution of spoken Italian and of the literary language from the second half of the 19th century to the present time.
In this respect students are invited to read the texts by themselves while linguistic analyses of exemplary texts will be proposed at every session.
Teaching methods
Lectures with use of texts.

For the institutional part of the program, the handbooks are:

2. V. Coletti, “Storia dell’italiano letterario”, Einaudi (PBE), Torino 1993, dal cap. 6 in poi.

For a linguistic profile of some storytellers of the twentieth century:
3. P.V. Mengaldo, “Storia dell’italiano nel Novecento”, il Mulino, Bologna, 2014 (1a edizione 1994), cap. IX with the attendant texts anthologized in the second section of the book.
