Obiettivi

The aim of this course is to give students a broad understanding of
the main trends of early modern European history , and of the strong connections between past and present.

At the end the student will have consolidated the factual knowledge of the early modern age in Europe and will be able to critically discuss its basic articulations
Course contents
The course explores ‘early modern’ European history, from roughly 1450 to roughly 1848.
The course examines the period paying particular attention to main political, social, economic, intellectual, and religious transformations, such as the growth of the modern state, Reformation and its political consequences, secularization, political, cultural and economic revolutions, it also introduces to the on main interpretation (eg. Modernity/postmodernity, change continuity, periodization etc).

Students will find the scheduled lectures, the required readings and the optional assignments on Kiro (http://elearning2.unipv.it/scipol/course/index.php?categoryid=2) They must register on Kiro before the beginning of the lessons.
Teaching methods
Lectures are mostly interactives . In each class we will discuss weekly readings on textbook or other materials (e.g. newspaper articles).
Not all topics in the textbook will be covered in class, but students are expected to know them for the exam and class discussion.

Attendance and informed participation in class is highly recommended
Attending students* (on the basis of active class partecipation) can start the oral examination with a topic of their choice
