Understanding the course topics requires knowledge of the basic concepts of cell and tissue biology at high school level.

Course contents
Cells are an organism's basic units of strycture and function.
Organization of the Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
The structural basis of the cellular information:DNA, chromosomes, mitosis and meiosis, RNA and proteic synthesis.DNA damage and repair mechanisms.
The key roles of cell division; Apoptosis (programmed cell death), necrosis.
Techniques of morphological and immunohistochemical staining.
Epithelial, connectival, muscular, nervous tissue.
Bone marrow, blood cells and immune system cells.
Nervous system, digestive system, respiratory system.
Definition of tumor cell. Virus and prions.

Assessment methods
The oral exam is aimed to understand the main mechanisms of cellular duplication (mitosis, meiosis), DNA damage and repair and cellular transformation in tumors.
