Prerequisites
It is recommended to have already passed the exams of the first year of the degree course.
Learning outcomes
The course aims to study the transformations of international politics seen in the methodological perspective of the History of international relations.
Course contents
The course provides skills for the study of the following topics:
- approaches and methods to International History: Diplomatic History, Geopolitics and Geo-history, Global History, History of International Relations
- from the eurocentric system of empires to the global system of nation-states
- international politics between the two world wars
- the twentieth century: "short century" or "American century"?
- the roles of the United States in the evolution of international politics
- decolonization and Global Cold War: interpretative paradigms
- transatlantic relations: between "empire by invitation" and "European dream"
- Europe: from the crises of colonial empires to the birth of a new international entity
- significant moments in the processes of globalization, fragmentation and international regionalization
- the nuclear question from a historical perspective
- the transition of international relations from the cold war to the post-cold war (historiography and interpretations)
- the transformations of post-bipolar international politics (main actors and dynamics)
- the international challenges of the new Millennium (issues and problems).
