Prerequisites
Basic notions of electromagnetism, solid state physics.
Learning outcomes
Learning of the concepts concerning nanomaterials, their physical properties and their experimental study.
Course contents
The course describes the physics of nanomaterials. The covered topics are: - Nanomaterials - Experimental techniques for the study of nanomaterials and single layers of atoms: scanning tunnel microscopy and scanning probe spectroscopy (STM and SPM); Electrical transport; Light absorption and re-emission and scattering; Ultrafast optical spectroscopy - Graphene, Van der Waals monolayers and the measurement of their physical properties; Dirac fermions, Hofstader butterflies, fractional charges, Wigner crystals - Application of such nanomaterials; quantum devices, single electron devices and spintronics.

Oral examination with the possibility of a seminar on a topic covered in the course.
