RIMOLDI ADELE (titolare) - 6 ECTS
Prerequisites
Basic background from previous courses in electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, atomic physics and relativity.
Learning outcomes
Basics of Subnuclear physics. Since the subject matter is approached in a clear and accessible manner, the student is focussed on learning the concepts that lead to key measurements in particle physics.
Course contents
This course is addressed to the explanation of the fundamentals of particle physics.
Phenomenological description of elementary particles and physics of their interactions are the building blocks of this course.
Wide part of the course covers the dynamics of fundamental interactions.
The main topics of this course are:
- Introduction to Standard Model of particle physics through the description of interactions of particles with matter and measurements at the main collider experiments.
- history and discoveries of particles
-standard model of interactions: bosons, fermions
-particle detection and detectors
-weak interaction
-experimental tests of electroweak theory
-dynamic model of quarks
-neutrino and D, B oscillations
-CP violation in mesons systems
-the Higgs boson
-LHC: discovery potential and results
-physics beyond the Standard Model
Teaching methods
Frontal lessons with slides projections
