Prerequisites
The course is aimed at first-year students. Attendance requires the ability to read texts in their original language.
Learning outcomes
The course will focus on some aspects of Greek prose between VII and IV century B.C.

Comments and analyses of the texts will shed light onto the history of the Greek thought in historiography, philosophy, and politics.
Course contents
The course is divided into three parts:

a) Herodotus, Historiae IV
b) Isocrates, Areopagiticus
c) Plato, Apology of Socrates

In order to prepare the final oral exam, students have to attend the tutoring classes, which consist in written exercises concerning texts by the authors studied in the monographic course. For the final exam, which is oral only, students have to be able to read the texts mentioned above in their original language, being well acquainted with the Greek Literature from its origin up to the IV century BC (included), in particular with the literature in prose.

Besides the general textbooks, a more specific bibliography will be suggested during the course.
Assessment methods
Oral examination and Course general comprehension test.
Written tests, done during the tutoring classes, will be used for guidance only.
