Learning outcomes
The course introduces to the major theoretical issues and significant currents of philosophical thought from Kant to the present, through the study of selected texts and literature, and explores a theme, a text or an author of particular importance for the history of contemporary philosophy, through critical analysis of works, of methodological issues and of more meaningful interpretations.
Course contents
The materlialist conception of history
The first part of the course will be devoted to illustrate the most important events and figures of the history of philosophy from Kant to Nietzsche.
The second part of the course will deal monographically with the fundamental lines of Marx's and Engels' materialist conception of history

The use of other handbooks must be agreed with the professor.

Assessment methods
The test on the first part of the course (institutional part) has to be taken in written form. The test has to be passed before the oral examination concerning the second part (monographic part).
Students are allowed to take the written test immediately after the end of the first trimester (beginning of November) or in special sessions in Januar/Februar, in June/July and in September.
The test on the second part of the course is in oral form.
Further information
The test on the first part of the course serves as one of the three papers requested to be admitted to the three-years degree, as established in the didactic disposition.
