Learning outcomes
The course offers to the students a critical discussion of main theoretical and methodological skills needed for the realization of an empirical research within social sciences. In particular, students' attention will be focalized on the construction od the research design from the starting Hyphoteses to their empirical control and to the communication of the results. At the end of course, students should be aware of the main fundaments of methods in social sciences, and they must be abler to use them with the right critical and epistemological awareness. Besides they will achieve information on main currents within epistemological literature and so they will be aware of risks of over interpretation of data. Finally students will achieve basic skills for the implementation and the assessment of social researches
Course contents
The course will be organized in 4 parts. In the first will be discussed: the concept od Science and its relation with reality; main epistemological current, from positivism to hermeneutics and more modern approach. In the second will be discussed: a) fundamental concept of the scientific process, b) principal skills to project a research design.
In the third part we will study the quantitative approach ant its specificity, in the last part we discusse the qualitative approach and its analysis.
Teaching methods
Lessons will be organized partly in a more traditional approach and partly with and interactive relation and with exercises.

Assessment methods
The exam is a written text with theoretical questions and exercise. in the first lesson a fact-simile of exam will be presented by teacher.
