Prerequisites

Basic user level A2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

Attendance at the language classes of the Collaboratore ed Esperto Linguistico (Didattica Integrativa / Dott.ssa Heike Fremdling) at the CIM Course (Comunicazione, Innovazione e Multimedialità).

Attendance of the Course Tedesco 1 at the CIM Course (or Literature & Philosophy course within the academic year2016/17). Students must have passed the written and oral exam of Tedesco 1 successfully.
Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students will be able

- to use the main grammar structures and vocabulary of the German language approximately at an B1.1 level
- to understand and use autonomously a wide range of vocabulary on the B1.1 level (political and social context vocabulary)
- to comprehend, analyse and put into context an actual political or social issue in German
Course contents

Students will learn about different cultural and social aspects of the German speaking countries, in particular:
1) Politics: The German political system
2) History: Germany before and after the unification
3) Economics: “Made in Germany”

Students will have the opportunity to deepen their language skills regarding political and social issues in order to develop a good understanding of intercultural and communicative aspects on a B1 language level.

The parallel activities of the Collaboratore ed Esperto Linguistico will introduce to the main grammar and lexical structures of the German language and deepen students active and passive communication skills at an B1 level. Teaching methods

The interactive didactic method includes innovative teaching approaches ("flipped classroom", collaborative learning) as well as various interactive exercises in class in order to stimulate the use of the foreign language as well as shared moments of discussion and thoughts about the German culture, politics and society.

Regarding the course LINGUA TEDESCA 2:

No textbook will be used, but the learning material will be available on the KIRO platform (Scienze Politiche - Corsi Comune - Lingua Tedesca 2 / 2018-19) at the beginning of the first semester 2018/19.

Assessment methods

The final exam is divided into two parts:

1) A WRITTEN TEST regarding the program of the language lessons (Dott.ssa Fremdling – language level B1.1), which tests skills and abilities in grammar, vocabulary and oral comprehension. Students need to pass successfully a written test regarding grammar and vocabulary (Cloze Test) and a listening comprehension (Multipe Choice test).
Students who have an official language certification (B1 and higher)) only need to take the grammar test.
The written test is valid for 12 months.


2) An ORAL EXAM regarding the course "LINGUA TEDESCA 2" on behalf of Prof.ssa Berndt

In order to have access to the oral exam you need to pass the written test with a minimum mark of 18/30.


The oral test (in German language) is divided into the following parts:
1) preparation of a "hand out paper" regarding the topic of the presentation

2) presentation of an "actual political or social issue" (newspaper article, web site, TV format, ... ), related to a topic discussed in class

3) analysis of linguistic items in the presentation (grammar or vocabulary aspects)

4) contextualization of the content proposed in the presentation and connection to theoretical aspects.

The topic of the “actual political issue” can be chosen by the students, but needs to be agreed upon with the teacher of the course (Prof.ssa Berndt).

Both presentations and hand out papers need to be sent to the attention of Prof.ssa Berndt at least 1 week before the oral exam.

DIDATTICA INTEGRATIVA (Mothertongue language classes):

The timetable of the classes of Dott.ssa Fremdling (heike.fremdling@unipv.it) will be published on the website of the Corso di Studi in CIM.

Students should attend the “Avanzati” Course (Advanced students: 40 hours (first semester) / seminar 20 hours (second semester).

The seminar is NOT compulsory for Political Sciences and International Relations students, but it is highly recommended. .
