Prerequisites
Having passed the exam of Latin language and literature (basic course) and, consequently, having acquired a solid basic knowledge of Latin language.
Learning outcomes
Aims of the course are enhancing the language skills and acquiring, also by means of the reading of texts in Latin, a basic knowledge of the chronological profile and generic categories of Latin literature.
Course contents
1) Reading, translation and linguistic commentary, entrusted to individual study, of two Latin texts:
a) Cicero, De amicitia or De senectute;
b) Virgil, Aeneid (one book by choice).
2) Historical approach to Latin literature from the beginnings to Apuleius; reference manuals: A. Cavarzere, A. De Vivo, P. Mastandrea, Letteratura latina. Una sintesi storica, Roma, Carocci editore, 2015 or G.B. Conte, Letteratura latina, Firenze, Le Monnier Università, 2012.
3) Monographic course: 'The Latin epigram: identity features of a minor genre'. Reading, translation and commentary of the texts discussed during the lectures and then collected in a set that, at the end of the course, will be available on the computer platform Kiro.

N.B. It being understood that, owing to the specificity of the topics discussed, attendance is recommended, non attendant students are requested to contact the teacher in order to agree upon some critical essays providing a commentary for the Latin texts inherent in the monographic course. Their program will consist of the above mentioned points 1, 2 and 3 with the addition of some integrative readings related to the texts commented on during the lectures.
