The course aims to provide students the necessary theoretical knowledge and application tools to deal with a complex urban project and to develop, up to the scale of architectural detail, the project of a residential building. Starting from the knowledge acquired during the first three years and from the set of urban planning and building regulations that regulate the building process, it is intended to provide the student with the basic skills to deal with a real case both relating to the complex urban project and to design of a residential building, transmitting an Approach to the project close to that of the professional activities.
Course contents
The course is organized in lectures, tutorials and project activities. Study visits in Italy and abroad and guests from the world of research and the profession will be a part of the didactic activities. The course is divided in two parts: the first is referred to the urban project, with particular reference to the transformation of abandoned sites in the urban area, the second part deals to deepen and develop the project of a residential building in all its complexity

Urban analysis and design
In its first part the programme deals with the urban analysis as an essential tool for the development of urban project. Starting from contemporary theories and the most importants international case studies are provided the necessary knowledge that lead to the definition of a project in a large area. The student through the theoretical and laboratory work, will be able to design a master plan on a abandoned existing area verifying, in a real case, the knowledge acquired. The study of the morphological aspects, land use, environmental and ecological conditions, infrastructural system, needs and problems, historical aspects and buildings rules, are the basis of analytical and practical knowledge of a place to find the reasons for the project. At the same time the study of the theories and Italian and international case studies are the cultural context within which lies the experience of the project.

Housing project
In the second part of the course will be done a project of a residential building from architectural and constructive point of view including different aspect as typological one, technological, structural, heating and hydraulics system. As a final compulsory teaching of architectural composition the course aim to bring together all the aspects that affect a building, considering the project as a tool to systematize all aspects that contribute to the conception and realization of the work.
