Basic information of History of the ancient Near East
Learning outcomes
Aim of the course is to deepen some aspects of the culture of preclassic Near East (Anatolia, Syria, Mesopotamia) through the examination of particular written documents and their writings. Particular attention will be paid to the history of decipherment

Ancient writings and recent studies / theories.
Writing systems in the ancient Near East.
The invention of writing; Ideographic-syllabic scripts, alphabetical scripts.
The main supports. Monumental writings
Decipherment: history of studies and ongoing research.
