Prerequisites
Knowledge of the basic elements of metrics and stylistics already acquired during the three-year degree.
Learning outcomes
Through the analysis of authors and their literary production, this course aims to illustrate the most important metric and rhetorical forms used in Italian poetry, from the thirteenth to the twentieth century.
Course contents
Tradition and metric innovation in the poetry of Eugenio Montale.
Teaching methods
Lectures.
Attendance is strongly recommended. In some exceptional and documented circumstances, it may be possible to agree with the instructor an individual exam program.

Assessment methods
The exam is divided into three steps: written assignment on a topic of metric or stylistic, preferably relevant to the subject of the course (some works are analysed in class, in seminary lessons); knowledge of the main Italian metrical forms and of a specific critical work on one of them; knowledge of the content of the lectures.
