Prerequisites
Preferably competences coming from courses of electrotechnics, technical physics and machines.
Learning outcomes
Provide to the students the elements required for choosing and managing the instrumentation in industrial processes and the results of the performed measurements. Provide to the students competences on the sensors used in industrial processes.
Course contents
General concepts on industrial measurements and their execution; description if the most common measurement instruments and sensors: basic operating principle, implementation features and tips for the correct installation; operative aspects for managing the measurement process and the exploitation of the collected results.
In detail:
- Standards and security
- Temperature measurements
- Pressure measurements
- Acoustic measurements
- Level measurements
- Inertial measurements
- Deformation measurements
- Mass and length measurements
- Flow measurements
Teaching methods
Lectures in class (45 hours) where theory, techniques and practice inherent to thermal and mechanical measurements are illustrated, with particular emphasis to the industrial environment.
Reccomended or required readings
- Lecture slides
- E. Doebelin: Strumenti e metodi di misura
- G. Rossi: Misure meccaniche e termiche
Assessment methods
Written exam with multiple answer questions before the oral exam. Oral exam: discussion aimed to ascertain the acquired knowledge on industrial instrumentation and the ability to choose a measurement instrument suitable for the different process measurements, as well as to describe the operation of the adopted sensors.
Further information
It is possible to carry out the oral exam if the score in the witten exam is at least 16/30.
