RONCHI LUIGI AUSONIO (titolare) - 6 ECTS
Prerequisites
The student should have knowledge of the courses of Stratigraphy and Sedimentology, Geology 2, Geological Survey and Petrography
Learning outcomes
The class aims to give to the students the useful instruments to:
-understand and interpret in the field the most important sedimentary facies (terrigenous, Carbonatic and chemical); - to get the capacity to measure and describe a stratigraphic profile (detailed and general); - to have the knowledge to map at greater scale a medium-complexity stratigraphic/tectonic area; - to measure with compass dips and dips directions of stratigraphic and tectonic features; - to be able to write a technical relation on the basis of acquired data in the field; - to aquire the basic concepts of facies analysis in fluvial settings, to know the principal aspects of the regional geology of Sardinia: variscan basement, Permo-triassic successions, Mesozoic marine successions; oligo-miocene volcanism
Course contents
The geological campaign will be held in NW sardina. The class will include some frontal lessons propedeutical for knowledge of the studied area and in particular:
-geodinamic evolution of the Sardinia-Corsica block trough the geological times;
- the paleozoic basement and its deformation during the Variscan orogeny; The late paleozoic covers;
- the Mesozoic covers:
the Cenozoic and Quaternary covers;
-the volcanic phases through time;
-the intrusive phases (Sardinia-Corsica Batholit)

In the field, particular attention will be devoted to the description of sedimentological facies, sedimentary and organic structures; measuring of stratigraphic sections in the Permian and Triassic succession; studi of the tectonics in the area of Cala Viola and Cala del vino: faults, folds and thrusts; geological mapping at 1:5000 scale.

Teaching methods
The didactic methods of such class are explained through some frontal lessons; practical lessons in the field on various topics (stratigraphy, sedimentology, tectonics and gedynamic) and exercise, through the preparation of the geological map, the stratigraphic sections and personal description of the topics seen in the field.
