Prerequisites
Good knowledge of the major authors of Italian literature, especially from the beginnings to the Renaissance, as acquired during the first two years.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge of the philological method in editing literary texts, both as applied to medieval works and the manuscript tradition of unknown scribes and to the autographs of the major authors of Italian literature.
Course contents
Aim of the course is to give an extended view of the theoretical principles of philology and to illustrate several important study cases in Italian literature from its beginnings to the Renaissance period.
Teaching methods
Lectures and materials that the students will be provided with during the course and whose knowledge will be part of the final examination, along with the textbooks.

Assessment methods
Oral exam. The final exam is intended to test both the knowledge of the theoretical principles of philolgy and that of the several significant cases that the course will have dealt with.
Further information
The students are warmly recommended to attend classes, also given the technical nature of the discipline. Those of them who won't be able to do that are requested to talk as soon as possible to the teacher, in order to define an alternative program.
