Learning outcomes
The course aims to present in an essential form the phonetics, morphology and syntax of Spanish (European variety, with a glance at American Spanish), approaching grammar in a contrastive, descriptive way, focused on the dialectical relation between the use and the norm.
Course contents
Spanish pohonetics. A contrastive description of morphological and syntactical structures of contemporary Spanish with a special focus on: nominal and verbal inflexion, personal pronouns, relatives, indefinites, demonstratives, possessives, use of ser/estar, the principal uses of prepositions.

Real Academia Española, Nueva gramática de la lengua española. Manual, capitoli 15, 16, 17.
Bibliography for practices will be communicated when they start.

Assessment methods
Written, in Italian.
The course is integrated by language practices of Spanish, which are held all the year along by a native speakers staff. For any information about their language learning, contacting prof. Mazzocchi is highly recommended. Practices program includes nominal morphology, verbal morphology (regular and irregular verbs: indicative, imperative, subjunctive/present and imperfect), elementary syntax.. To pass all tests forseen for the practices is propedeutic to the exam. Written test includes: dictation, grammar exercises, translation, essay. For no part of the text the use of a dictionary is allowed. Students who attend at least 70% of practices, may stand intermediate tests (before Christmas holidays, end of third term, end of fourth term). Passing the three intermediate tests exempts from the final test, except ion the case students want to improve their mark. The knowledge of spoken Spanish will be verified in a few minutes conversation before the exam; such a conversation will deal with topical subjects,and two novels: Nada by Carmen Laforet and Entre visillos by Carmen Martín Gaite (compulsory reading).
