Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to the design of the refurbishment, strengthening and reuse of heritage buildings, for which a conservative approach is considered necessary.
The project must therefore be preceded by a careful study aimed at knowing the physical consistency of the building, the residual levels of performance of the constructive elements, as well as the compatibility of new uses or new requirements of the same destination with the existing architecture, in order to respect morphological, structural and functional aspects of building system.
Course contents
- The construction, use, decay, reuse and maintenance process of buildings;
- Historic construction techniques;
- Survey, analysis and diagnosys
of decay phenomena;
- General principles for structural strengthening of buildings;
- Techniques for preservation and strengthening of buildings;
- Hygienic building recovery;
- Analysis of the humid conditions and diagnostic tools.
Teaching methods
The course consists of lectures, guided visits to case studies, technological survey of a building or a part of it and a project
