Prerequisites
Good knowledge of medieval literature from 5th to 12th centuries
Learning outcomes
The course aims to guide the student in analyzing historical performance of one or more literary texts, primarily in Latin, produced in medieval times to shed light on the cultural transmission mode inherent in the period examined
Course contents
Culture and the West medieval education from the fifth to the twelfth century.
Through the examination of different types of sources you will trace a panorama of western Latin culture from the fall of the Western Roman Empire to the twelfth-century Renaissance.
They will discuss literary sources, archival and visual in order to reconstruct an overall picture, including the main places of culture, libraries, monastic schools, chapter members schools, secular culture centers. From time to time they will be considered evidence related to environment bunting.
