Prerequisites

Learning outcomes
To increase knowledge of BUILDING TYPES and technologies aimed at the integral design of the building.
Provide cultural and technical basis necessary to building DESIGN intended as the result of a synthesis process from morphological concept to its constructive FEASIBILITY.
Course contents
The course aims to address the issue of FEASIBILITY CONSTRUCTION and the role of technics in design synthesis, through the study of CONSTRUCTIVE ELEMENTS, as well as the implementation procedures, seen in their consistency with both the FORMAL CONCEPTION and the FUNCTIONAL PROGRAM, in the context of developed countries as well as in the GLOBAL SOUTH.

MAIN THEMES
1. Assess and define the concept of "building type" and its possible use
In particular, the course provides a detailed insight into the design of complex buildings such as hospitals and railway stations.
For example, the hospital will be studied from its historical evolution, from different building types to the latest guidelines.
2. relation between morphology - technology - material - function
through some case studies
3. Use of traditional building materials and techniques in the Global South
Teaching methods
The course consists of lectures, exercises and laboratory design.
Lessons, focused on the above topics make extensive use of critical analysis of examples made.
Exercises include thematic analysis of technology issues and constructive and group presentations.
Design Laboratory aims to draft a project of a building complex from its morphological and typological definition, and the definition of some of its technology nodes.
