GALLI MATTEO (titolare) - 4 ECTS
BORGHI MASSIMO - 2 ECTS
Prerequisites
Fundamentals of algebra and trigonometry. Mathematical Analysis I.
Learning outcomes
Data analysis based techniques are applied in the context of practical experiences carried out in the laboratory, which have the purpose of making the student familiar with the basics of the experimental method. Furthermore some lectures on Mechanics arguments related to the laboratory experiences are provided
Course contents
Arguments in lessons
Elasticity: Elasticity for tension and compression, volume, torque. Relationships between elastic modules.
Oscillations: simple harmonic motion - Examples of harmonic oscillator (spring-mass system, simple pendulum) - Composition of harmonic motions - Fourier theorem (statement) - nonlinear aspects: non-linearity of the restoring force of the pendulum and relation between the period and the amplitude - damped oscillations, forced oscillations and resonance. Torsion pendulum. Coupled pendulums and beats.
mechanical waves: Equation of D'Alembert - Plane waves - Spherical waves - Harmonics plane waves - Overlapping waves - Interference - Beats - group velocity - transverse waves on a rope - Longitudinal waves in a solid bar - Elastic waves in gases - Speed of sound in air - Waves of pressure and density - elastic waves energy. Transmission and reflection of elastic waves - Waves on a rope.
