Prerequisites
A good knowledge of institutional medieval history and latin is required.
Learning outcomes
The course intends to suggest some starting points and critical reflection tools about structures and specific languages of medieval documentary sources, with particular attention to dynamics (tradition/experimentation) that qualify the production of sources during periods of change in the political and institutional systems.
Course contents
The course will deal with the changes which, beginning in the second half of the 11th century, occurred in the documentary system, accompanying a political transition (the advent of communal governments). The course will then analyze the early experiences of documentary activity by the consular colleges up to the early recording forms by the communal offices. I
