Prerequisites
An adequate knowledge of institutional medieval history and latin is required.
Learning outcomes
The course intends to suggest some starting points and critical reflection tools about structures and specific languages of medieval documentary sources, with particular attention paid to dynamics (tradition/experimentation) that qualify the production of sources during periods of change in the political and institutional systems.
Course contents
The course will analyze - through reading and commentary on documents (charters, //brevia//, //placita//, diplomas) and laws (Langobard and Carolingians) - the characteristics of late Medieval documentation, in particular regarding the topics of the "functions" of documents and justice (forms and procedure).
