Prerequisites
Students must have knowledge of the Italian Contemporary History.
Learning outcomes
The teaching purpose is to introduce the most relevant issues of the Italian Administrative System in history and also to identify the impact and constraints that historical events have on the current situation. The developments of the last hundred and fifty years will be considered, mainly with regard to Italy, but with references compared to other administrative systems.
The student must have a good knowledge of the subjects and show the ability to use appropriate vocabulary and critical tools.
Course contents
The course will be divided into four parts:
1. The Public Administration Evolution
2. The Origins and Features of the Parastatal Administration
3. The Civil Service
4. The Evolution of the Local Government
Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars with the assignment and discussion of readings.

Assessment methods
Attending students will prepare the examination (by a written or an oral assignment) on course notes and readings. Each student will be required to produce an assessed essay. Non-attending students will assess an oral exam based on the texts mentioned above.
