Prerequisites
Students are required to acknowledge basics from courses such as electrical energetic/energy management, chemistry, technical physics, controls, thermal prime movers, electrical drives.
Learning outcomes
The course outlines energy efficiency concepts, linked to the use of fixed speed and variable speed drives for a specific application which is the compressed air production and management.
Course contents
Applications of electrical drives for the compressed air facility.
Recall to basic knowledge on fluid machines (compressors); Introduction to CAS; configurations and problems of energy efficiency. Modeling and nod to checks. Energy comparisons between fixed and variable speed machines.
Teaching methods
Lectures (hours/year in lecture theatre): 22
Practical class (hours/year in lecture theatre): 0
Practical / Workshops /Seminars (hours/year in lecture theatre): 0
Reccomended or required readings
All the material is available on the KIRO website
Assessment methods
Oral exam during which the students can be required to solve a simple written exercise on the very basic contents of the course. Knowledge on the running parameters of the LABAC compressor (GA30) will be verified.
