Learning outcomes
Understanding basic computer science principles for handling biomedical signals. Using and programming a spreadsheet.
Course contents
Recall of basic concepts related to calculus and geometry.

Introduction to computer science, information theory and principles of information encoding. Numerical systems.
Computer architecture: Von Neumann architecture, the CPU, memories, input/output devices. Characteristics and performance measurement units of the components of a computer. Execution of an instruction.
Software: operating system and application software. CPU management policies.
Algorithms and software programs, flow charts, examples.
Biological signals. Continuous and discrete signals.
Internet: structure, protocols, web browsers, email.
Laboratories: using MS Excel (conditional execution, searching data in a spreadsheet and graphical representation).
Teaching methods
Classroom teaching and practice classes on the computer for using a spreadsheet.
