Prerequisites
Excellent knowledge of Italian language.
Learning outcomes
The course is intended to provide cultural tools and analysis methods for understanding Italian modern and contemporary literary communication, and for appropriately contextualizing works of literature in their historical and cultural background.
Course contents
By analyzing meaningful textual samples taken from works of literature of the 20th century, the course aims to explore mass-media representation in Italian modern and contemporary literature.
In addition to the authors and texts covered during class, it is required the knowledge of the following authors (chapters and texts in the anthology "Rosa fresca aulentissima": see "Reference texts"): Svevo, Pirandello, Tozzi, Saba, Montale, Ungaretti. Furthermore it is required to read the Introduction (pp. 1-21) plus two chapters to choose of the book by Paolo Giovannetti: "Retorica dei media. Elettrico, elettronico, digitale nella letteratura italiana", Milano, Unicopli, 2004.

- For the monographic section: Paolo Giovannetti "Retorica dei media. Elettrico, elettronico, digitale nella letteratura italiana", Milano, Unicopli, 2004.

Texts to be read during class will be provided by the teachers.

Students not attending the course:

Students who cannot attend the course should contact the teachers in order to agree to a planned examination.
Assessment methods
Written examination based on essay questions. Answering to the questions students should prove to possess the appropriate cultural means to understand modern literary comunication in its historical context and the subjects covered during class.
