Learning outcomes
The course aims at enabling students to critically analyse Italian Nation building in the frame of the European "long 19th Century" according to the most recent historiographical debate, and at developing interpretative skills especially as far as chronology and use of sources are concerned.
Course contents
According to the most recent historiographical debate on the "long 19th Century" in Europe, classic and revised periodization of the Italian Nation bulding process will be analyzed, especially focusing on the perception and sedimentation of events and places/events in individual and collective memory. The impact of the Napoleonic age in the peninsula,Restoration, revolutionary crises, the 1859-1861 turning years and the post-unification decades will be also examined.
