Prerequisites
A good knowledge of the history of Ancient Philosophy is required.
Students must have already passed an examination on this subject.
Learning outcomes
Lectures aim at the presentation of a theoretical problem in the field of Ancient Thought, which will be analysed also from the historical and cultural points of view.
Course contents
Plato's Psychology: nature, structure, and fate of the soul.

Lesson aims to examine the dialogues in which Plato discusses the soul, one of the central themes of his philosophy, reading these texts according to their different perspectives. In particular, the following topics will be analyzed:
. the conflict between body and soul in the "Phaedo"
. the nature of the soul and vision of the ideas in the "Phaedrus"
. the "politicized" soul and its internal conflicts in the "Republic"
. the generation of the soul in the "Timaeus"
. myths on the fate of the soul: "Gorgias", "Phaedo", "Republic" X
Teaching methods
After some introductory lessons, the course will be organized as a seminar. Students will be assigned some themes to be analyzed with a specific bibliography.
Students are therefore requested to attend classes.

Assessment methods
Students have to discuss a report, which will be assessed by the teacher.
