Students are strongly recommended to take this course only after having
followed (and passed) Greek History and/or Greek Archaeology.

The aim of the course is to provide a basic knowledge on methodology
and research issues concerning Archaeology of Magna Graecia and Sicily,
in order to highlight similarities as well as substantial differences
between Western Greeks and their mothercountry.

The course will examine the phenomenon of colonisation in Magna
Graecia and Sicily from both historical and archaeological perspectives.
We will analyze the major phases of development and the main
architectural, artistic and artisanal productions of these colonies from
their foundation to the Roman conquest.
