Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide solid historical, theoretical, methodological and critical instruments to understand the main lines of theatre directing, evaluating the relationship between text and scene, the development of acting techniques, performance in tradition and avant-garde. Particular attention will be given to the work of Giorgio Strehler on Goldoni, also considering the unfinished projects, in a process of aesthetic and autobiographical revisiting that combines XVIIIth century scene and contemporary scene.
Course contents
Specialized Course: Strehler’s travels in Goldoni’s life.
The course will analyze the main lines of theatre direction and its historical development, in order to consider theoretical and aesthetic issues, performing problems and literary implications. Particular attention will be devoted to the work of Giorgio Strehler on Goldoni, reformer of the European scene and great father of the modern theatrical civilization: through a process that considers finished and unfinished projects, will be underlined the vitality of his artistic experience for the contemporary audience, also crowned by the honorary doctorate in Letters at University of Pavia in 1992.
