Department
DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AND ARCHITECTURE
Curriculum
PERCORSO COMUNE
Period
2nd semester (01/03/2017 - 16/06/2017)
Lesson hours
120 lesson hours
Activity type
WRITTEN AND ORAL TEST
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the techniques for the representation of the architectural projects at different scales.
Knowledge of the construction building technologies and materials.
Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide the students with the awareness to face and solve the problems of typological, distribution and technological aspects that are the basis of the architectural design and the particular design of the building organism and its surroundings.
Lectures, workshops and tutorials will address the various issues of the building design by the scale of the building up to that of the construction details.
In particular, attention will be given to residential buildings.
Course contents
The program includes teaching activities articulated in:
Lessons - characterized by the following main topics:
Relationship between housing needs and housing spaces; dimension of the spaces for living.
Aggregation of housing: building types for the residence and their evolution, with particular attention to recent changes in lifestyles.
Classification criteria and setting design of the buildings.
Plants in residential buildings.
New typological solutions and technologies in the residence.
During the exercises there will be the design of an architectural project, developed in group on an assigned area with a specific functional (usually housing) programme.
The organization has two "intermediate" presentations to verify the progress of the project during the semester. The topic and the project area are defined at the beginning of each academic year.
The laboratories instead concern the distribution of the functions in housing and organization of building types.
Teaching methods
Lectures (hours/year): 80
Practical class (hours/year): 40
Reccomended or required readings
At the beginning of classes and at the end of each lesson the references useful for the study of the topics will be provided to the students.

Assessment methods
During the semester, the students have 15 tests, which consist in designing housing in the classroom. The topics covered include the distribution features and building types.
The architectural project, developed in group on an assigned area with a specific functional (usually housing) programme, is the second part of evaluation.
The average of the two marks previously described is the vote by which the student is admitted to the oral test, final part of the exam.
