Learning outcomes
The course aims to analyse the coordinates of the history of the exploitation of natural resources, from the end of the 19th Century to the present, in a global perspective. Progressive discovery of the "environmental issue" in public debate and new emergencies (global warming, water crises, resource conflicts) are considered, also with analysis of case studies.
Course contents
Section 1 - general (30h).
1) The environmental issue from ancient time to the Second Industrial Revolution.
2) The changes in the early twentieth century (1900-1950).
3) The Age of Great Transformations (1950-1985).
4) Globalization (1986-2008).
5) The crises and emergencies of the present and the future.

Section 2 - In-depth analysis (10h).
Environmental damage in industrial cities between recognition, repression and oblivion: the case of asbestos at Casale Monferrato and Broni.
Teaching methods
Lectures with discussion of documents and sources.
