Prerequisites
Knowledge of World Contemporary History with main focus on Italian history is required. Undergraduate exam of Contemporary History needed.
Learning outcomes
The course aims at providing students with critical analysis of Italian history in the 20th Century, with a Cultural history approach.
Course contents
Identity building processes in Liberal, Fascist and Republican Italy will be examined focusing on symbols, memorials and rituals, according to recent scholarly research. Public memory building and "civil religion" will be analyzed, with special focus on anniversaries and celebrations performed by different political groups also in the last phase of the First Republic.

A reference list will be provided by the teacher in the opening lecture. Students are also required to learn from their class-mates' presentations.
