Prerequisites
Knowledge of the most important Italian artists of the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Century and their works. Knowledge of the specific terminology of the history of art.
Learning outcomes
The lessons will illustrate and make understood the different languages of the Italian Renaissance art, far from the capitals as Rome, Florence and Venice. He also intends to teach to understand and appreciate the specificity of pictorial languages ​​born in peripheral areas and to identify the polemical answer to classical Renaissance models.
Course contents
The course will examine the production of so-called "anti-classical" and eccentric painters in Brescia, Cremona and Bergamo during the Renaissance. Starting from Roberto Longhi (1917, 1934), the origin of the concept of anti-classicism will be considered as a polemical and alternative attitude towards the language of Raffaello, Leonardo , Giorgione and Titian. The phenomenon, whose dimensions was expanded after Longhi , involving artists from all over the peninsula, will be investigated only for the area between the Duchy of Milan and the venetian mainland, focusing in particular on the works of : Altobello Melone, Gianfrancesco Bembo, Romanino, Pordenone and Lotto.
Teaching methods
Lectures about the historical period and artistic context of the cities where the painters worked; analysis of the works and than guided tours to Cremona, or Brescia, or Bergamo.

Assessment methods
The student will be asked to speask about the works analyzed during the lessons and place them within the artist's production, referring to the historical-artistic context. Exercise to be agreed upon with the teacher.
