Prerequisites
It would be preferable to have already acquired the basic notions of audiovisual language and film history
Learning outcomes
The course intends to provide skills and tools to learn the authors, poetics, trends and peculiarities of documentary and experimental cinema. A special focus will be dedicated to Italian cinema, which in recent years has identified the documentary as a privileged space tpromote identity and individuality paths, according to a dynamics that matures, through bodily mediation, within social relationships.
The course aims to allow the student a basic analysis (structure, language), a first approach to the documentary and its proper contextualization in the contemporary landscape.
Course contents
The course will explore the history, forms and aesthetics of documentary and contemporary experimental cinema. The course includes theoretical reflection and the vision of documentaries that, for creative originality and cultural interest, have marked the recent Italian productive season. In addition, as part of the course, further meetings with the authors, scholars and critics dealing with mapping and defining the multifaceted and elusive reality of the documentary are also provided.
Teaching methods
Frontal lessons, vision, analysis and commentary on audiovisual materials on contemporary Italian documentary and experimental cinema.
The course may include educational outings on the territory or participation in exhibitions, with the presence of the teacher.

Non-attending students, in addition to Bertozzi's texts, giving and watching movies, will have to prepare two books among the chosen texts.
Assessment methods
The exam consists of an oral examination in which will be verified the main theoretical questions related to experimental cinema and contemporary documentary. Knowledge of trends, authors and works of the contemporary Italian documentary will also be tested.
For attending students, it is possible, in addition to the oral exam, to agree a written paper with the teacher.
