Prerequisites
Knowledge of the basics of Italian grammar; reading competence and linguistic analysis of literary text.
Learning outcomes
This course proposes a discussion and linguistic analysis of a number of texts illustrating the main varieties of contemporary Italian. It is also meant to supply students with the necessary critical and analytical instruments so as to give them the possibility to recognize the various styles and written forms existing in present-day Italian.
Course contents
Contemporary Italian and language variation, between "spoken" and "written". Textual typologies: classifications. Notions of textual linguistics: principles of cohesion and coherence. The argumentative text.
Analysis of exemplary texts and classroom exercises.
Teaching methods
Frontal lectures accompanied by exercises of textual analysis.

Assessment methods
Oral exam and personal assignment.

Oral exam: open and closed questions.

Personal assignment: argumentative essay that involves a textual analysis. This work has to be sent by e-mail to the teacher at least 7 days before the oral exam.
