Learning outcomes
Aim of the course is acquiring, also by means of the reading of texts in Latin, a basic knowledge of the chronological profile and generic categories of Latin literature.
Course contents
Reading, translation and linguistic commentary, entrusted to individual study, of two Latin texts:
a) Cicero, De amicitia or De senectute;
b) Virgil, Aeneid (one book by choice).
Historical approach to Latin literature from the beginnings to Apuleius; reference manuals: A. Cavarzere, A. De Vivo, P. Mastandrea, Letteratura latina. Una sintesi storica, Roma, Carocci editore, 2015 or G.B. Conte, Letteratura latina, Firenze, Le Monnier Università, 2012.
Monographic course: 'Examples of epic Latin poetry'. Reading, translation and commentary of the texts discussed during the lectures.
N.B. It being understood that, owing to the specificity of the topics discussed, attendance is recommended, non attendant students are requested to contact the teacher in order to agree upon some critical essays providing a commentary for the Latin texts inherent in the monographic course.
