Learning outcomes
The whole range of didactic goals as indicated for the three-year degree course is presumed to be acquired.
In the two-year specialistic course, the student will moreover have to display a very deep knowledge of a specific philosophical subject related to medieval thought. Such a knowledge must be obtained through an independent and reflective approach to learning and research (though supervised) in bibliographical and historical-critical terms, and must result in a written and oral paper on a particular theme connected to the subject selected year by year. The student must then demonstrate his/her capacity to critically assess the relevance and the arguments expressed by other students and teachers during class and seminars which constitute the course.
Course contents
The subject of the course will be the debate on happiness, particularly in the thirteenth and fourteenth century. Texts of Augustine, Severinus Boethius, Boethius of Dacia, Thomas Aquinas, Dante will be examined.
