Prerequisites
A knowledge of the French language corresponding to the programme of the first year.
Learning outcomes
Sixteenth-century and seventeenth-century texts will be analysed in the light of implicit methodologies, while the course aims to stimulate reflections concerning different genres (fiction, poetry, theatre). It is also designed to offer the rudiments of history and literature and to enable the student to deal effectively with French literature from its origins down to the end of the seventeenth century.
Course contents
- Poetical readings from the Renaissance to the Seventeenth century
- Voltaire, Candide (1759)

Students must be capable of expounding the history of French literature from the Middle Age to the end of Eighteenth century; the following manual is recommended: Bertini, Accornero, Bongiovanni, Giachino, Lire. Littérature et culture françaises, Milano. Einaudi Scuola vol 1.

Not attending students must to contact the lecturer after the end of the course.
