Learning outcomes
The course critically discusses the theories and practices of cultural anthropology.
It analyzes the dynamics of representation of identity and its political uses in the contemporary world.
The students are expected to know the theoretical and political components on the anthropology in order to comprehend the processes of identity and difference constructions in the contemporary world.
Course contents
The course of Cultural Anthropology will develop different arguments. A part of the lessons will be dedicated to the methodological and epistemological questions about the main anthropological concept of “culture” in his historical evolution. The original approach of Clifford Geertz, called hermeneutical approach, will be analyzed in the news perspectives of research it will offer. We’ll consider also the theory of anthropology as cultural critic and the new reflections about the contemporary world of Marc Augé, Ulf Hannerz and Arjun Appadurai. Finally we’ll examine the theatrical paradigm in social sciences moving from the reflections of Victor Turner.
The course will be improved with slides and other materials showed by the teacher during the lessons.
