Learning outcomes
The course studies the socioeconomic aspects of the territorial systems in which the administrative activity and government are enacted. Lessons will look to local production systems, their transformation, their regulation and to policies for local development.
Course contents
The course covers the following topics:
1. The territorial dimension of economic development
2. Local development in an era of globalization
3. The definition of territorial systems
4. The local production systems: industrial districts, firms-networks, clusters, districts High-Tech
5. The regulation and governance of territorial systems
6. Policies for local development in the European Union
7. The recent transformations of local production systems
8. The relationship between regional systems and innovation
Teaching methods
The course is divided into two parts: the first six topics are covered in the general part while the last two are the subject of a seminar organized with the participation of students.
Attending students give an oral presentation in the classroom at the end of the seminars; students not attending are required to write a short report on a theme of the seminar.
Reccomended or required readings
Readings in English will be provided to students who cannot read Italian
Assessment methods
Students will be assessed both on the general part and the seminars
