Course contents
The purpose of this course is to provide a historical analysis of the Italian mafia; the Sicilian mafia, the Camorra of Campania, the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta, and the Sacra Corona Unita of Puglia. The course will cover the history of the mafia presence in Italy beginning in the nineteenth century and continuing through the 'Risorgimento' period (Italian unification), the fascist period, and the post-war period. A thorough examination of the last thirty-years of mafia presence within Italy will be supplemented by in-depth lectures provided by individuals on the forefront of the fight against organized crime within Italy.
