basic knowledge of the historical development of the Byzantine State and society (the adquisition of at least 6 CFU in «Byzantine Civilization» is mandatory)
Learning outcomes
provide advanced knowledge about specific themes and problems related to the history and development of East Roman civilization.
Course contents
analysis and discussion of specific themes of the «Byzantine Millennium» (4th-15th centuries)
Teaching methods
reading and analysis of byzantine sources in italian translation and in original language; analysis of iconographic and numismatic sources; analysis of the most recent contributions in the field of byzantine studies
