Prerequisites
The course requires learning basic notions about the nosographic-descriptive diagnostic systems. The Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 (SCID-5) is a semistructured interview guide for making the major DSM-5 diagnoses. It is necessary to be familiar with the DSM-5 (APA, 2013) classification and diagnostic criteria and with the criteria of the latest DSM-5-TR revision (APA 2022).
Learning outcomes
General object: learning diagnostic process and assessment in the clinical setting through the semi structured interview SCID-5-CV. At the end of the course the students can administer the interview modules and can formulate a diagnosis through the interview scoring. Another object is to acquire the skills to formulate differential diagnoses, through the administration of the SCID-5-CV.
Course contents
- Diagnostic assessment according to the descriptive nosographic system
- Introduction to SCID-5-CV: basic characteristics and general framework
- Administering of the interview in the clinical setting and first applications
- Presentation of ten diagnostic modules
- Application of modules to real cases for diagnostic assessment
- Procedure of scoring and drafting the diagnostic report
Teaching methods
The teaching consist of:
- 6 hours of frontal lessons
- 12 hours of tutorial and guided practice
- Formulation of the presentation and administration of the interview
- Role-playing
- Application to clinical vignettes
- Comparison on real clinical cases
- Deepening of different contexts of use of the tool

Assessment methods
The examination will take place through the evaluation of a written text, which provides for the application of the SCID-5-CV to a clinical case the argumentation of the diagnostic formulation
