Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of the neural basis of human behaviour.
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge about the most common neuropsychological disorders resulting from brain lesions. For each deficit, the theoretical substrate, the assessment instruments, and the main rehabilitative techniques will be illustrated. The lectures will be structured to help students to apply the acquired theoretical notions to clinical case studies. The course will also provide knowledge on neuroimaging techniques and their application in clinical neuropsychology.
Course contents
• Introduction to neuropsychology
• Methods in neuropsychology:
- Anatomo-clinical method and Voxel-based Lesion-Symptom Mapping (VLSM)
- Structural and functional neuroimaging methods in neuropsychology
- Resting state fMRI: From physiologic principles to clinical applications
- Electroencephalography (EEG)
• Spatial cognition and its disturbances (neglect)
• Deficits of motor awareness (anosognosia)
• Disorders of body representation (somatoparaphrenia, misoplegia, phantom limb, body identity dysphoria)
• Movements disorders: apraxia
• Neuropsychological assessment
- Anamnesis and clinical interview
- Test administration and correction
- Medical report
Teaching methods
Lectures, presentation of videotaped material, discussion of clinical cases and individual presentation/discussion of journal articles.In accordance with the University Guidelines for teaching activities in the 2022/2023 academic year, the course will take place in presence.

Assessment methods
Combined written multiple-choice test and oral examination.
